Gold Coast wedding photographer

Photos of how it felt — not just how it looked.

Curator of bottled nostalgia

G’day, I’m Josh.

I’m Joshua Mikhaiel, a documentary wedding and elopement photographer based in Palm Beach on the Gold Coast. I follow stories across Byron Bay, Brisbane, Toowoomba and beyond.

If we’re being honest — and by all means, let’s — wedding photos don’t matter because they’re taken in perfect light or with amazingly complex techniques. They matter because the moment in the photograph mattered.

I deeply believe marriage is important. I want to give you images that take your mind and heart back to the moments, and the people, that matter.

How I tell stories

More listening. Less posing.

Wedding photography, for me, is much more about listening to a story than telling one. You have to get inside it and understand the humans who make it special.

I make it my mission to listen, participate and involve myself in your celebration. My style is mostly photojournalistic: capturing things in their raw beauty, with the connections and little moments intact.

I’ve always felt most comfortable calling myself a documentary photographer first and a wedding photographer second. It’s the human connection, the love and the chance to create something meaningful for you that keep me coming back.

A few things you might be wondering

Good questions.

HOW DOES THE BOOKING PROCESS WORK?

I take a very limited amount of commissions each year and try to always say yes to jobs where I feel a connection to the story I’m telling. If I don’t think I am the right fit for your wedding I will happily refer you to someone who I think will do the best job for you. Because of this I place a real importance on hearing some of your story and meeting up face to face before we go ahead with any official paperwork etc.

HOW LONG TILL WE GET OUR PHOTOS?

Your photos will be delivered in an online gallery approximately 4-6 weeks after your wedding date and a little bit sooner for elopements. Your gallery is only available to people who have the link. It’s shareable with family and friends. And also doubles as an easy place to order prints, frames, calendars etc with your photographs and have them shipped right to your door.

DO WE NEED TO BE PHOTOGENIC TO HAVE GOOD WEDDING PHOTOS?

DEFINITELY NOT! Sometimes the most “photogenic people” are super hard to photograph because they think they know “their angles” really well and can’t act natural. The best way to guarantee your wedding photos are amazing and natural looking are to forget about the camera and have fun with your person. I’m an expert at making you forget I’m there and helping you (where needed) to loosen up and just have fun together.

DO YOU OFFER VIDEOGRAPHY?

Yes I do offer videography. Not the traditional wedding photographer where everything is in slow motion and the feeling you walk away with is that you just watched something halfway between a perfume ad and a cinematic movie trailer. My films are focussed on the emotion of the day just like my photos and almost have a very high end home movie feel. It’s not all fancy b-roll and drone footage it’s the actual moments of your day edited nicely to tell the story and preserve memories.

HOW DO YOU CHARGE FOR TRAVEL FOR DESTINATION WEDDINGS?

As a Gold Coast wedding photographer I don’t charge for travel for Brisbane weddings, Toowoomba weddings, Byron Bay Weddings or Anywhere that falls within a 2 hour driving range of home. I love shooting country weddings and in remote and random locations so I try to make travel as simple as possible for my couples who are having weddings out in the country or interstate. My family is also from Sydney area so I don’t charge to come back and visit them because that’s always a treat. If your wedding is interstate or international I’ll provide you an all inclusive quote for your wedding with no hidden extras later with all expenses included.

Your people. Your story.

Let’s make something worth remembering.
