PICKING YOUR BRISBANE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?
My wife & I moved to Brisbane just after covid. I’ve been so pumped to have a whole new set of venues to work at and actually shot a ton of backyard weddings as well since we’ve moved to Brisbane. I’m loving this city, so many amazing places to shoot. I’ve honestly been most surprised by how lovely all of the wedding venue staff are here. I don’t know if the venues I used to shoot in Sydney were just too busy and Jaded from life or if Brisbane’s wedding hospitality crew are just so much more chill. But it’s a nice change.
“choosing a wedding photographer is a deeply personal choice, the person you choose to invite into this space will literally shape your expierence of your wedding day more than any other vendor for your wedding”
As far as my photographic credentials I usually like to let my photos do the talking. But in 2015 Rangefinder Magazine in the United States named me one of their top 30 Rising Stars of wedding photography globally which was a huge honour. I’ve been featured in most of Australia’s best wedding magazines. White Magazine put my images on their cover twice which I’ll admit felt nicer than I thought it would.
This is the part where I’m supposed to sell you on why I’m the perfect Brisbane wedding photographer. But I think that would be pretty far from the truth. When it comes to a the best wedding photographer there is no one size fits all. There’s definitely bad wedding photographers, and incredible wedding photographers. But even the best wedding photographer in the world might not be a good fit for you.
If you want perfectly styled photos that look like they’re out of a glossy magazine; if you want your skin photoshopped within an inch of its life. I’m probably not your guy. By all means get in touch, and I’ll help point you in the direction of some lovely photographers who shoot weddings like it’s a fashion shoot. But that’s just not my style.
FINDING A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER CAN BE HARD
You’re choosing so much more than photos you like. You’re choosing the person who will be walking within 5 meters of you for most of your wedding day, continually communicating with you and your family / guests. You need to find your right fit.
reason you might not want to choose me as your wedding photographer.
If you’re scrolling my instagram and see a large number of followers up the top.. and go oooh.. maybe our wedding pics will be insta-famous… Feel free to pause, take a deep breath, put down your phone and go outside. My absolute deepest conviction is that your wedding photographs are a deeply personal thing that I get to give you. I’m really trying to document it in a way that will be cherished by you and your family for many generations. Well after instagram is gone. I’ve photographed plenty of weddings where there was clearly a lot of time and effort gone to into making things look a certain way just so that people on social media would think it was cool… and it made me pretty sad.
Remember these photos are for your actual family and friends
The people who you choose to celebrate with who love you and adore you and have chosen to take the day to celebrate with you, “and hopefully the rest of their lives” to walk with you through the ups and downs of married life. Those people.. are who these photos are for.. to remember the beautiful day that they participated in with you… and yes… family and friends who couldn’t make it. But I don’t create my images with the idea of hoards of strangers online thinking your wedding was cool. I just want you to be able to go back into the beautiful memories.
